Dear Students,

Health Management Department started its education and training activities in 2000-2001 with its first students and highly qualified academic and management team who have broad experience in academic and sectoral fields. The department is in Faculty of Health Sciences of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences which is a young university with deep roots.

Faculty of Health Sciences and Health Management Department are waiting for local and foreign students in Akyazı Disctrict which has an important health tourism potential with its touristical facilities and water rich green forests.

Recently some changes seen in health field such as increase of service opportunities, extension of life expectance in birth, total quality management becoming more widespread, technological developments in all fields and changes in communication platforms relocated Health Management as one of the important braches of Management Science. When evaluated from the perspective of the health institutions, this means that the developments in the management fields need to be caught up as well as the developments in the field of medicine. Health management not only specializes in health institution’s management in a micro level, but also approaches to the field in a macro level which contains all health services, health politics and systems. At this point the need for the Professional health manager is growing high in our country every day. On the other hand, it is becoming difficult to find the human source to fill this need and this is why the demand for the departments which teaches health managers is rising.

Our Health Management Department aims to contribute to the development of health sector and educating qualified human resources by using the one semester field-work integrated 7 +1 system in addition to the classes in the curriculum. With the conference and symposium organizations the students have the opportunity to learn from the vast knowledge of the academicians of other universities and health professionals of the sector. By encouraging the students to attend these academic activities, the students are also intended to get the necessary information and experience to do scientific researches. Moreover, in Sakarya Universitiy of Applied Sciences Faculty of Health First-Aid trainings are given to the students free of charge, and by this way their career development is supported with local health authority approved “First Aider Certificate”.

Health Services Department covers wide-ranging education programs special to health sector such as health insurance, health economy, health legislation, quality in health services, marketing in health services, strategical management in health, communication in health, human resources in health services.  According to the August 26th 1998 ordinance of the Council of Higher Education executive committee, the graduates of Health Management Department are awarded with the “Health Manager” title. In this sense it is aimed to educate health managers who has information about the health system and politics of our country, has the feel of medical deontology, can talk the same language with health workers, can think strategically, has a vision and skill of resolving problems. The graduates are playing an active role in defining and realizing the health politics of our country.
