Department History
The foundations of the field of Health Management in Turkey date back to the 1960s. The first education in this field began in 1963 at the School of Health Administration, affiliated with the General Directorate of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Health. Later, in 1970, the School of Hospital Administration was established within Hacettepe University, and this institution provided postgraduate level education until 1975. In 1975, its name was changed to the School of Health Administration, and it operated under this name between 1975 and 1982. In 1982, it was restructured under the umbrella of Hacettepe University and continued its education.
The number of universities offering undergraduate education in health management has gradually increased over the years. According to the 2025 data of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), a total of 81 universities in our country, 61 of which are state universities and 20 are private universities, offer undergraduate education in Health Management.
The Health Management Department, located within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, commenced its educational activities in the 2020-2021 academic year and admitted its first students. The Health Management Bachelor's program consists of 8 academic semesters spread over 4 years. In their final year, students gain field experience in the 7th or 8th semester through on-the-job training, aiming to enhance their knowledge and skills and provide job opportunities.
In addition to core courses in management-organization, accounting, business administration, economics, and law, the department also offers courses covering health topics such as medical terminology, epidemiology, and first aid. Furthermore, professional field courses such as healthcare institution management, health economics, statistics in healthcare management, marketing, strategic management, leadership, and data management and artificial intelligence in healthcare are also offered.
